A fun, not too complicated project.
This is Lelouch from Code Geass in his school uniform.

Parts after the wash.

Dry fit. The fit was so good that I didn't really needed to use any putty. Shocking :D

The eyes are the mirror to the soul. His turned out very nicely :D

All of the lines were hand painted. Yeah for a steady hands \(^o^)/

OK, for a big change, this project is all MINE :D
I found this statue on eBay and just couldn't resist buying her. Such a beautiful sculpt that got covered up with bronze paint.

She actually had lots of problem areas. Some of them were very hard to reach :D

After all the cleaning, she is ready for some paint

First layer is base skin tone.

Followed by darker skin tone shading.

And finished up with some pastel shading.

Next step is the hair. Fist layer is neon orange, followed up by washes of dark red and dry brushed with some light yellow.

I had to take some pictures with flash to show the shading on the hair better. So one picture is with flash and the other is without. Ignore the skin tone on the pictures with flash, it makes it look splotchy :D

Painted some details, like shells, pearls and her net.

Every fish needs a tail :D
Painted her tail light yellow first, followed up by some light green, dry brushed red for the fins and airbrushed it with the same red to bring it all together.

As I was working on her fin, I started to work on her tail too.
First painted it green...

Next I washed it with darker green

Followed up by dry brushing some yellow to highlight the scales

To bring the whole tail together, I dry brushed some more of the red on the end of the tail and after that airbrushed the fin with base green color that I used on the tail (sorry I don't have the picture of the last step, but you can see it on the finished model :D)

I used oil paint to paint water. I needed something that would blend very nicely.

Added some clear waves by applying Gloss Gel. It dries clear.

I entered this kit in a contest, so this is the reason why I couldn't show my progress as I went. Sorry for so many pictures :D

Workbendh - Donna Troy

I've been doing so well with updating my blog at the beginning of this year, but as most beginnings it slowed down :D Oh well, at least I still find some time to work on my stuff.

Anyway, here is some update on our Super girl - Donna Troy.

Her skin is painted. I used a little more darker skin tone for this girl, so she looks like she is tan, plus it have a transparent layer of interference blue to give her a little shine.

Now the fun parts starts :D
First I painted her suit black, followed by gold that was shaded and finished up with some transparent red.

Small update on Kirika.

Test fitting the parts and pinning.

Her leg have a pretty annoying gap, that needs puttying.

The coat have to be left in two parts, since its an optional for Kirika to have it on or off.
Parts fit is pretty good, so I just had to add some pins.

Pinning the arms. They have to be removable, since she have to be able to wear the coat.

Unlike the coat parts, the sleeves have lots of problems. One of them I am going to permanently attach, but the other one have to be left unglued for now (it is too close to the main coat part and will prevent me to paint it correctly).

Here is the weird gap. I tried to adjust this lots of different ways, but for some reason I still end up with big gap between her neck and the hair O_o Needs putty.

The winter of 2011 is a little disappointing.
I live in Minnesota and this state is famous for its winters (and mosquitoes :D ). But this winter, we barely got any snow.
Mother Nature decided to treat for a New Year Present and finally send us some snow, and I have some pictures to proof it (I took them with my new digital camera that was Christmas present :D)

Of course I am very happy about all this snow, just because I wasn't planing to drive anywhere :D

Here is some WIP photos:

Some parts of the kit. I painted it once, but didn't liked how it looked, so I had to strip everything off and start all over. This is the picture of the body after the striping :D

I am very happy how her eyes and hair turned out.

The body suit involved lots and lots of masking :D

Now the base was a challenge to build.
I used thick foam board to cut the pieces for the base and glued them all together. After that I had to do lots of sanding and puttying. The final result was worth all that work :D

I don't know if you guys still remember, but I was working on this two battle divas - Ivy and Rachel, and I actually got some updates on them :D

Finished the base for girls.

I was asked to repair a base for PVC (the pegs were broken) and create a new base for the same figure as well.
Since remodeling on my workroom, I had some plaster stuff left over. So I decided to try it for this new base. The results were more then satisfactory :D

Some update on Lady Death.
This is just a test photos for the colors. After I took this photos, I had to change her hair color (a little bit lighter) and the inside of her cape ( a little bit darker). The only thing left for me to do at this moment is to finish her eyes and she is ready to take a flight to her new home :D

I was asked to repaint pre-painted figure of Lady Death.
Since I get to skip most of the cleaning process and just paint, I was very happy to take on this project \(^o^)/

I made a small boo-boo. I had to remove the cape and it didn't want to come out. Its a wonder what you can do if really pull (*^.^*)
It is fixed now, so no worries.

I have to tweak some of the colors for her (hair) and finish painting her stockings. More progress pictures are coming very soon.

This kit have tons of small parts, but mostly they look very clean.
I am still impressed with this vacuum packed part :D

Now that my workroom is all remodeled, I got a couple of new projects to work on (on the top of the older ones :D )

This new project is 1/4 scale Rei in Clear plug-in suit. She have lots of clear parts and looks amazing. Can't wait to start painting her.

The parts came in in the spaced out almost vacuum packed packages. Looks cool :D

Her fingers are amazing.

The shop removed some tabs from this kit and didn't do such a good job. They made a big boo boo in the funny place (*^.^*)

Its not that hard to fix, but worth mentioning.

Workroom

I was super busy this last couple of weeks. I finished some kits that I've been working for a while, but the BIGGEST project that I finished is my actual workroom.

I had a chance to modify my work space and I jumped at it with open arms.

My workroom is located in the basement of our house and its an unfinished basement. Which means it doesn't have insulation or flooring or ceiling. Just concrete walls and floor and lots and lots of spiders :D

Now this pictures are IN-PROGRESS

I got a new walls, new ceiling, new floor and a totally new exhaust fan :D

I had a temperature of 104 for at leas two days and its not a fun way to spend your day. Bad, bad week for me.

Workbench - Shing II

Another fun project on my table is Shing II (the sculptor's web page is here ).
I love the kits that this guy makes (so full of movement and energy), but most of them need a little more work on smoothing the surfaces out >_<
Oh well, its all worth it at the end.

After spending lots of time on priming/sanding, I started with her skin tone and her stockings.

Next painted the weird smoky/metallic thingy s that go from her base and hands.
First I painted them black and dry-brushed the metallic after.

The body suit was painted dark purple and shaded with black.

The hair is painted Neon Red and washed with Red and dry brushed after with Orange red. This can change, since I am still waiting for customer's approval :D

Workbench - Yurika from Nadesico

Just like the title said, I am working on Yurika from Nadesico anime.
Its a very old (1990's :D) kit and we had to wait for a long while for it to be in-stock again (over an year on pre-order), but now she is here.
The kit is very big (1/5 scale) but doesn't have too many parts. The biggest problem I had was with her cape. It came in three pieces and since I wanted to make the cape removable, I had to glue the pieces before I can work on them.

For such a plain looking kit, this girl needed lots of masking :D

For her uniform, I decided to go with Midnight blue and shade it with black. This way its still a dark uniform, but the purple/blue gives it more dimension.

More updates on this girl are coming very soon :D

Minnesota State Fair

I am lucky enough to live in Minnesota, which have an amazing State Fair every year (I am ignoring the lots of mosquitoes, harsh winters or occasional tornadoes). This year I decided to take some pictures of the foods we had at the fair.

Some of the food is expected in any fair, like corn dogs, cotton candy, cheese curds or french fries. But how about deep fried candy on the stick or pig lickers (which is sliced bacon, dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt)?
Anyway, I didn't get to try everything that I wanted at the fair, but we did try some stuff.

Eternal Sailor Moon

The kit is very small (only about 1/8 scale), but the amount of details is amazing. She have the most cutest face I've seen for Sailor Moon kit.

I know, I know, its been a very long time since my last update. It seems like the time is just flying for me lately. Still I did get some stuff finished (even if I didn't update the blog about it).

My big girl Ignis is all done.
I had the hardest time taking photos of her. My photo studio is not equipped for such a big/tall kits. Had to take this girl outside.

Not too long ago, I had a chance to get a kit from Odin Sphere's - Oswald.
It was modified from pre-existing resin kit, but totally different character (used to be a girl :D). It was done by a very talented girl from Germany - kawe. Here is her blog for the people who would like to see a step by step conversion (just click on Garage kits or Odin Sphere on the side ).

It even comes in with some mandragora and some snow flakes :D

Workbench - Ignis

I haven't updated this topic for a while, even though I have lots of progress photos :D
Its time to fix this little problem.

Painted Ignis' skirt, by adding butterflies. Everything is free hand sketched, so please don't ask me for design :D

Next I painted her shoes.

Got the hair painted too :D
The pieces really gave me a lot of trouble. Not because it was complicated, but just because the main hair piece is so heavy. I had to paint one half of it first, wait until its dry (by holding it in my hand) and after that paint the other half. Even the legs didn't give me this much trouble.
Anyway, first I painted the hair the same neon pink that I used for the bottom of the skirt and after that I layered the deeper red. This way she have very nice highlight that ties together with her skirt.

After the bottoms of the skirt were dry and cured, I glued them to the top of the dress. The back part was no problem, but the front needed lots of attention and sanding. Sorry for the blurry picture.

Here is a small preview on how she look with her hair and skirt.

She is coming along very nicely. A lot more stuff have to be done, but the end is near :D

Workbench - Dark Magician

I am almost all done with this Dark Lady.
Finished all of her armor, painted her face and her hair.
At first I painted the hair yellow/blond like on the original reference, but my customer decided that she would look much better with white hair.

I do think that white hair suit her much better :D

Workbench - Dark Magician

I started to work on E2046 Dark Magician (its their ORI project from couple of years ago). The kit is based on Lineage II game.
Since the store had this kit for a while and made countless copies of it, the cast is not the best. The whole surface of the kit have the "orange skin" effect on it >_< Not a pleasant sight.

For this elf my customer asked me to make her look like Pirotase (I have the name of the anime on the tip of my tongue :D ). So she is going to have nice dark skin with blond/yellow hair and lilac outfit.

I actually worked on this kit for a while, didn't have any time to record my progress. But all the prep work is done and now its coloring time :D
The skin is painted. This is only second time when I had to paint such a dark skin and let me tell you, I really really like how it came out :D Maybe I should paint this color more often.

Sorry for the boobies shot. I hope I didn't offend anyone :D

The main armor was painted with chrome paint (from the can :D) and followed up with Createx pearl purple mixed with some Future Floor Finish.

The inside of the cape was painted next. It needed contrast for all the shiny lilac on the main outfit, so we decided that it needs to be flat red to balance it.

Before painting all of the gold lines (by hand), I outlined them with black (by hand :D). The cape is done, but I do have lots of other armor pieced to complete now. Hopefully it won't take me too long.

I just couldn't resist. I got another PKKing kit.
Since from now on, he promises only cast about 20 copies of the kit, I just couldn't pass the chance of getting the Nine Planet sisters.
The amount of details on his kits are incredible.
Now I just need to find some time to actually work on them.

As of late, after long silence I bring you updates :D

I am all done with Sialeed kit.

Painted her weapons. The purple color is a little bit off on the close up picture. I discovered that my camera just not capable to take "real" purple shade. It have a tendency to make it more blue >_< Weird

And here is small preview on how she looks. I already took the final pictures, but still waiting for customer approval. Just a little bit longer :D

Workbench - Ignis

OK, OK, this is my last update for today :D Just don't be crying to me if I don't update it again for a while :P

The kit is BOME version of Ignis. One word to describe this girl - HUGE!!!

This is 1/3 scale kit, but she is much taller then the other same scale kits I had before.

For such a big kit she didn't have too many big seam lines. I scraped most of them with X-to knife first (I wasn't going to send them off, it would had taken me hours) and only after that sending it off with big foam sander (brick shaped foam pad wrapped in sand paper).

Next was pinning.
Since this girl is so HUGE (did I mention that she was very big?), I wasn't going to skim on pins. She probably will set off metal detector at the airport :D

If anybody wonders, I made the ridges around one part for glue to settle in. This gives it more grip.

I am dreading to think about painting this lady. The parts are supper heavy, since she is so HUGE

Workbench - Rei with motocycle

OK, this is the first time I ever worked on the motocycle and let me tell you, its hard.

The new kit on my table is Rei from Evangelion on the bike. The kit is tiny (1/12 scale I think), but it doesn't deminish the amount of parts.

Look at this following up picture. No really, look at it. It took me three hours to put that together (^_^;)
And that is not the worst part, oh no. The worst part was that after I put it together, I had to take it appart for painting.

Now, here is the easy part :D The body (at least I know how it looks)

Now if only the bike was this easy. Oh well, at least it's a good practice for my Rider kit.

Almost forgot, here is half assambled frame for the bike. I have to admit, I am very proud of this ;D

Another pretty lady added on my table :D

Its Sialeeds from Suikoden (at least I think she is :D).

I was asked to match the colors to the pictures below. Mmmmm, love that purple/blue/gold combo :D

The cast was a little weird. It looks like it was a copy that they cast the mold from. It had some primer still stuck to her and lots of pencil lines. Either way, she didn't have that many problems to fix and the resin is very nice and soft.

As you can see, this kit requires lots of masking. Which I skipped half of the time by painting by hand :D
All of the light purple lines are hand painted, plus all of the gold lines have to be hand painted.

She is shaping up very nicely. Did I mention that I really like her purple/blue combo?

Workbench - Eurika 7

My poor Eurika girl doesn't get as many updates as she deserves. Mostly I spend all of this time cleaning this girls hair. I really don't know how some sculptors do this on daily bases :D

Doing the same stuff over and over gets very boring, so I decided to switch it up a little. Wings here I come :D

I used some clear plastic to cut out the shapes of the wings, painted it with semi-transparent green (I tried to get it as close as possible to original colors) and added the design. It looks pretty good if I say so myself :D

Couple more layers of primer and sanding and its all done..... hopefully :D

PK King goodness

Not too long ago I finally got my Nine Balance -Nu Wa kit from PK King. I just had to share how amazing his kits are (and maybe make you a little bit jealous :D ).

This kit cast in grey resin. It looks a little bit weird (at least to me), but the resin is nice and soft, and amount of details is astonishing.

And since I am updating King's kits, I might as well add the other Nine Balance kit - Sturgeoun King.
This kit didn't travel as well as Nu Wa. The big, beautiful, clear base had some damage to it :( Too bad, since if I want to leave the base transparent, the breaks will be visible. I guess I have to wait and see until I actually work on it :D

Another commission on my table.
I got this kit in the mail not that long ago and already finished it. The cast is from original sculptor and the quality is amazing. Plus it really helped that part break-down was very good. I almost didn't have to mask anything (mostly the base).

The resin was pearly white and soft. Just a pleasure to work with.

Finished up the weapon. Its hard to see it on the photo, but its dry brushed with metallic silver and looks a lot cooler in real life :D

I think that was my most favorite part of the kit.

For the flames, I was asked to use fluorescent paint to make it glow in the dark. Its really cool :D

I had lots of work done on Ymir kit.
Her skirt was giving me the most of trouble, but now its all cleaned up and painted.

Also I did a "little" tutorial on her eyes. I promised some people that I make this :D

Finished up Carina girl.
She have two sets of arms, one with staff and one without.
The base was a lots of fun to make.

Another kit I am working on is Ymir from Queens Blade.
Right now I am still cleaning it up, since it was very very over-sanded and had lots of debris on the surface >_< The skirt is a nightmare.

I spend lots and lots of time cleaning up her dress, adding sleeves and the biggest chunk of time on her hair. The hair is not done yet, but it started to take shape :D

This kit was very nice, since I didn't have to do much masking :D and that is always good (specially considering how much time I spend cleaning it up).
So this is the only major masking I did on this kit :D

I was asked to make some flower-ry base for this girl. Just a quick WIP pics.

Workbench - Autumn Miku

Made the base for Miku.

I used the same tecnic for painting Miku's hair.
I found some cut out maple leaves at the craft store.

Placed the leaves on the base, just to see how it will look. After that I sprayed the colors where three out of four leaves are going to be.

Applied some rubber most to fix the leaves in place. This stuff is very cool and easy to clean up.

After the leaves are in place, I added some more of red color on the top part. I need some color difference to bring another leave in focus.

Leaves are all in place, so its time for the base color for the base :D

Ta-da, its done. I just need to add some Future floor finish to make it shine and polish it a little bit.

I started the WIP for this kit some time ago (long time ago), but had to put it on hold for a while. I eventually finished her, but totally forgot to take the update pictures. Sorry.

The kit was sitting on my table for last 3-4 months almost finished (she only needed her sword to be complete :D) So finally about a month ago I did it.

In the last couple of days, since I couldn't work on kits, I actually photographed them.
I hope you like her.

I've been very sick this whole week, so not as much updates as I would love to do. Oh well, at least I am getting better now and don't need to sleep whole day long :D

I finished some stuff on Miku. Now I only need to finish her base and she is set to go to her new home.
I had lots of fun painting her eyes, now I am just waiting for her owner to OK it.

Not much update on Carina girl (girl from La campania). I don't remember the last time I had to do so much clean up on a kit >_< Couple more turned with sanding paper and primer and she is ready to for paint.
On the good note is that I found some pretty flowers to go on her base.

I got just as little done on Eurika girl. Mostly just clean up on the dress and sanding off her stocking lines. Not much to show >_<

Next week I will be on vacation (from work), so I will spend most of my time working on this project. Stay tuned :D

Painted her hair with some maple leaves. It was lots of fun :D

Still need to do a trim on her skirt and stockings and sleeves. Plus her eyes :D

Workbench - Eurika 7 girl

New project with some modifications :D

I was asked to create a character from Eurika 7 anime (sorry, don't know her name).

Since there is no already sculpted kits of her, we decided that I can modify a kit (Herald of Hell Airi from Queen's Blade) to look like the girl.

First I needed to remove Airi's legs, since I have to glue the dress and it would be impossible to paint them in this state.

It looks a little bit messy right now, but I promise it will change :D

Also had to remove her head. I need to give the girl long hair and it would be much easier on me to do it with the head off.

OK this is that it looks now with fixed up legs and head (or should I say, no head :D).

Next I glued the dress and hands on and started to add the sleeves.

As an after thought, I cut her hands at the wrists. I need to add some sleeve ends to it.

For now, the putty is hardening. I will resume on her very soon.

Another new commission project is Autumn Miku.

I've done purple Miku, now its a turn for orange/yellow version :D

The parts been washed and prepped a little already.
The most time consuming was to put the hair pieces together.

She is mostly ready for painting, so stay tuned :D

New project :D
Its Carina Verritti from La campanella della benedizione (don't really know what this show is about, but this is my second kit from this series).

The kit is all washed right now and ready for some fixing up (and it needs a lot of it :D).

The cast is not the greatest. Most of the guide holes are closed and there is lots of over sanded areas. Not too horrible :D but still not pleasant.

One of the trickiest parts so far for me was the skirt connection. I will need lots heating up and putty to fix this.

I did not forget about this project :D

Rachel just needs a little bit more love and attention then the rest of my kit.

Fixed the poor girls hair (the piece was missing in action - she probably had a really bad battle :P )

And spend lots of time on fixing her outfit.

I am trying to recreate the original design for her armors, but its kind of hard (and time consuming). The cast is very bad (Thai), so lots of details are missing.

So I added some extra "bumps" for her belt buckles (sorry, I have no idea what to call them :D).

Same "bumps" for her vest, plus couple more details too.

Modified her preexisting underwear, so it matches the original style.

And added bunch of magnets to her body

Still working on her bra design. Since her breast got larger (not by me) I need to adjust the original design to fit her new "improvement".

Workbench - Bayonetta

My last update on Bayonetta. Next will be the complete figure pictures :D

Painted and added decals to B's ribbons.
Its was very painful to apply all those decals. Since the ribbons are not just straight, I had to apply small piece at the time. Took me a while to do it.

Also had to repaint the chains that came with this kit. They were different tint of gold and didn't match the outfit chains.

The guns are all done, with gems and charms.

Base was a long work in progress for me. Not because its so complicated, just that I needed to implement the logo and had to think about the colors. Ended up using the metallic gray/silver that I used on inside of Bayonetta's suit and black. Looks pretty cool in person :D

The chains with ??? hair charms?? (not sure on what to call them :D )

For a while, I couldn't figure out on how to attach the hair charms, but at the end I decided to use magnets. It works very well now, since the parts are already metal.

This is all of the update I have for today. Now I just need to take the complete pictures of this lady.

Sheryl Nome - finished

Workbench - Bayonetta

I did not forget about this "little" lady.
Finished up her face and make-up.

And spend uncounted hours on her FOUR weapons.
All of the black and gold lines are hand painted, which required some patience.
I really like the final result, I just wish not to see it again for at least a year :D

I still need to put the gems in the weapons and attach the charms.
The only other things I have to finish on her is ribbons and her base.

Storm Rider guy - finished

I know that I haven't been updating my blog as often as I used to, but my work is keeping me away (weird, all over schedule). Every second I get, I spend on working on my kits. The updating the blog is a little bit behind.

Anyway, I finished my Storm Rider guy (the big one :D ). It was a challenge to pin him, since the parts are so heavy and the cape kept over balancing the whole kit >.<
I was very happy when he was stable (without gluing the cape in) and all painted. Of course after that I had to photograph him and that's another challenge :D

I hope you like him.

This is one of my favorite pics of him. Love the moodiness of him :D

Just in case if anybody wonders, I did not glue the cape or his head in. I already had to find a very very very big box to fit him in :D
This guy really demands some attention when he is in the room.

Workbench - Sheryl Nome from Macross

Another project that was on my table for a while, but for some reason I didn't update the progress here :D
This is a Sheryl Nome from Macross. The kit was recast from PVC version, which means very easy part break down. The quality of the kit was so good that it didn't take me that long to clean up. Combine that with easy part break down and it means I got to go to painting part (the best part) almost right away.

So here is all of the in-progress pictures.

this is a reference pic I got from a customer for color scheme.

All of the belts on corset came it as a separate pieces.

The hair took me a couple of tries to get it right. I am very happy how it turned out :D

Now I just have to finish up her shoes and her mike.
