Workbench - Simoun

This girls are such a pleasure to build since they don't need that much fixing up (specially after Rei kit :D). The fitting on the parts is almost perfect. The only small gaps that I had to use putty on were legs on one of the girls (and it was just because I was picky)

The only big problem that I found was lots and lots of small pin holes. Its kind of funny, but almost all of the original kits that I had to work on, had the same problems. Probably because the sculptors didn't use vacuum chambers for casting.
Oh well, it just take some Glazing putty and a little sanding to fix it.

Lot more updates are coming soon.

Workbench - Simoun

Since I finished up Nanoha, I as starting on another commission kit.
This is two girls from Simoun - Aer & Neviril. I am not familiar with this anime, but if anybody is interested here is a link to the official web site:
Simoun: http://www.simoun.tv

Neviril: http://www.simoun.tv/characters/02.html

Aer: http://www.simoun.tv/characters/01.html

The original sculpt came from this guy http://maruya.name/aenevi/

Lots of parts for the hair :D

And BIG "thank you" for including the chart on how to assemble them. Otherwise I would most definitely glue them in a wrong order.

Nanoha finished

Nanoha is all done.

Workbench - Rei

I didn't take too many in-progress pictures of Rei. I got kind of carried away with her progress :D

Body is all done. The white was airbrushed, but all the rest was hand painted. I was feeling a little lazy to mask all this stuff

This is the strips of .... something (have no idea what to call them :D). They came separate from the main body and in a clear resin. I like the holes inside, it makes it more interesting.

Glued the strips. Had to use some hair dryer to make them fit properly.

Here is a quick preview of her body. She is almost completely done, I just need to adjust few small things.

Workbench - Nanoha

I know that I didn't update progress on Nanoha for a while, but I run into a very annouing problem >.<
The name of the problem is "The (stupid) base" :D

I used the decal paper on the base and everything was looking nice, until I sealed it with Future. After Future, I got a very uneven surface with glares. I tried to even out the top coat, but only managed to sand off the decal :(

After unsuccessful repairs, I started from the beginning. Only this time I am just using plain white printed copy of the circle. Right now its drying.
Hopefully I can take the pictures of complete kit very soon.

Workbench - Rei

Finally, its a painting time (the fun part of kit building).

Rei have so much white on her and I didn't want it to all blend in together. So I am using two different shades of white for her outfit. The Icy White is for her plug-in suit and Warm White is for her bandeges. This way there is a nice defanition between areas. Also I am going to make the suit glossy and the bandages flat (later on :D)

Just the colors without shading yet.

Remember the horrible hair???? I sure do :D
Anyway here is what it looks like fixed and painted.

Sorry, but no in progress pics of their eyes >.<
I got carried away with the progress

Workbench - Rei

Some more scary pictures of all the stuff that I had to fix on Rei :D

Some problems were easy to fix with some heat from hairdryer

And the others took some patience with sand paper and primer :D

See all the bumps?

And this is how she looked after hours of cleaning and fixing :D

Now its time for painting.

Workbench - Rei

My new commission kit :D

This is a kit of Rei from Evangelion. This sculpt comes with lots of diffent options for display. The have two different heads, two different sets of arms, and one extra hand (confusing, but ones you see it, you will undertand what I am talking about :P)

The quality of the cast was HORIBLE >.<
I guess the mold that the store used is worn out, so the surface of the kit is very bumpy. The fit of the parts is very had too. I had to use lots of putty to fix all the gaps on her. Plus I had to make sure that all the extra parts can be exchangeable.

First I present you with one of the Rei's heads. The top of the head consist of three different parts. I glued all the parts together first, because the is no way I am messing with this mess after I painted it :D

The other head did not have too much problem (compare to the other one :D)

The legs and her backpack didn't have to many problems, but it still needed some fixing.

And here comes the scary GAP :D
Most of the arm pieces needed some putty, but this one part takes the first place.
I tried to fit the piece lots of different ways, but any way you look at it, it needs lots of help. I don't know what happened to this part, maybe the mold shrink or something.
I aligned the piece to the top right corner of the sleeve and the rest I filled with putty.
